Whitehaven Coal says inflation is ‘rife’

Managing Director of Whitehaven Coal Paul Flynn Horizon chief executive Andreas Bezos has accused the Albanian government of stoking inflationary pressures after his company failed to meet a unitary cost target and its $6.4 billion move to Queensland was held up by a rail dispute with Horizon.

Unit costs at Whitehaven mines in New South Wales have risen 11 per cent over the past year to $114 a tonne – excluding the cost of royalties payments to governments – despite the company selling more coal.
