Trump wanted to wear Superman shirt after COVID hospital stay

Maggie Haberman reports in “Confidence Man,” Tuesday, that as former President Trump was being discharged from COVID treatment, he had an idea that he eventually abandoned:

  • “He came up with a plan he told staff was inspired by singer James Brown, who he loved to see throw off his cape while on stage, but it was also in line with his love of professional wrestling.”

[H]e would be wheeled out by Walter Reed in a chair, and once out he stood up dramatically and opened his button-down shirt to reveal [a] Superman logo below it. (Trump was so serious about it that he called campaign headquarters to instruct an aide, Max Miller, to get the Superman shirts; Miller was sent to a big-box store in Virginia.)

Trump returned to the White House on Marine One after a three-day stay at Walter Reed Medical Center in October 2020.
