Today’s NYT Strands Hints, Answer and Help for July 20 #139

Strands doesn’t get as much attention as its New York Times sister game. Wordle And LinksBut it can be just as challenging and fun. Strands just came out of beta, so it’s now in the official New York Times gaming app, which could bring it even more fans. I’ll go into more detail about Rules for threads in this story.

Your goal is to find hidden words that fit the theme of the puzzle. If you get stuck, look for any words you can find. Every time you find three words of four or more letters, Strands will reveal one of the clues. These are the words you used to get these hints, but any words of four or more letters that you find will work:

  • plan, plant, ting, stop, chair, friends, slap, ping, pool, reel, board, lanka, scat, wipe, reed, cree, scalp.

Today’s Thread Puzzle Answers

These are the answers that relate to the theme. The object of the puzzle is to find all the answers, including the word “spangram,” a theme word that runs from one side of the puzzle to the other. When you get all the answers (I originally thought there were always eight answers, but I’ve learned that number can vary), you’ll use every letter on the board. Here are the non-spangram answers:

  • fork, knife, plate, cup, spoon, napkin, plate

Today, the spangram series is Setting up the venue. To find it, go to the bottom row and select the letter P in the three letters, then go to the right and then up.

How to play NYT Strands

1. Use today’s topic to search for words related to that topic. See a word? Drag or click on the letters in order. Click on the last letter twice to make your guess. If you find a topic word, it will light up blue and stay that way.

2. Other words you find are hint words that give you clues to keywords. Find three hint words (each must have at least four letters), and the game will reward you by showing you a keyword. But if you can’t decipher it, find three more hint words and the game will highlight the letters of the keyword in order.

3. searching for com.spangramA special thematic word that runs through the entire puzzle, although it may flow across the puzzle or from top to bottom. It summarizes the subject of the puzzle.

4. When you are finished, you will have used every letter on the board in either a topic word or a spangram. The topic words fill the entire board and do not overlap.
