An insider has revealed an additional reason behind rock star Jack Black’s decision to end Tenacious D’s Australian tour prematurely.
Following bandmate Kyle Gass’ ill-advised comments about an assassination attempt, Donald Trump At their Sunday concert in SydneyThe quick reaction was believed to be a major factor in Black’s decision to end the round.
However, a source close to the band provided Daily MayMore details on the School of Rock star’s shock decision.
“He didn’t expect the mockery that Kyle directed at Trump, and with his status in Hollywood, he had to settle this controversy immediately.
“Although Jack was surprised by the situation, and even surprised by the reaction, he was keen to get ahead of the situation,” the source added.
In a statement after the show, Black said he did not expect such inflammatory comments.
“I was shocked by what was said on the show on Sunday. I would never support hate speech or encourage political violence in any way,” he said in a statement.
“After much consideration, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans have been put on hold.
“I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
With a slew of upcoming films believed to be in post-production, it’s understandable that Black was hoping to avoid tarnishing his projects by allowing the controversy to continue.
“Jack doesn’t want to cancel, and by ending the tour and getting away from everything and Kyle’s joke, he’s hoping people will quickly forget about it,” the source added.
“There are so many huge movies that Jack loves right now, and to hold them back would be career suicide. We will see Tenacious D again, but that might be years from now.”
While the band’s reputation may have been damaged, some X Users have speculated that the tighter insurance policies of the tour venues following the controversy may have prompted the band to make this decision.
“After Jack Black and his band Tenacious D celebrated Trump’s assassination on Saturday, they received about 10,000 calls and texts from all the concert venues they had booked to cancel their reservations,” one user said.
“You see these places have to have insurance to cover any mass casualty incident. And in some places, the law literally requires that they have some level of coverage.”
The impact of these comments was severe on Gus, who is believed to have been dropped by talent agency Greene Talent.
