Sick twist in shark attack video

Police are investigating how a video of a shocking shark attack that saw a young surfer’s leg severed was leaked online.

The video of the attack, viewed from a computer screen filmed on a mobile phone, shows the surfers being dragged by what may be a shark.

The video appears to be from a computer screen inside a police facility and shows the moment a great white shark attacked Kay McKenzie, 23, at North Shore Beach in Port Macquarie on the New South Wales mid-north coast last Tuesday.

Mackenzie lost his right leg in the attack.

His injured leg was wrapped with a dog leash to stop the bleeding, before he was airlifted to hospital.

His leg was found on the beach but could not be reattached.

The video shows the experienced surfer trying to paddle back to shore away from the shark, in water that appears to be waist-deep.

The shark, believed to be a three-metre great white, pounced on the surfer from behind.

The leaked vision shows the moments leading up to the attack.

NSW Police confirmed that an internal investigation is ongoing, Daily Telegraph It has been reported.

“NSW Police are aware of the video circulating online and have launched an investigation into how the video was posted,” police said in a statement.

“NSW Police do not tolerate this type of behaviour and will take appropriate action pending the outcome of the investigation.”

The investigation will be led by the force’s Professional Standards Command – which is tasked with investigating police officers and their conduct.

After undergoing major surgery at John Hunter Hospital, Mackenzie, from Bonny Hills, took to Instagram on Saturday morning to thank everyone for their support after the “crazy shark attack”, which he said had “scared the hell out of me”.

“Man, man, to be here now, to be able to hug my beautiful Eve and my family, this is everything to me,” he said.

“To all the kind people, to all the legends, to everyone, all your support means so much to me. It’s so wonderful to see so many beautiful people supporting me.”

He vowed to return to the water.
