Reuters announced Tuesday a series of appointments in Washington, DC, strengthening its coverage of the White House, economic policy and national security during a pivotal era in American politics.
The new beats are:
- Humeyra Pamuk, a 23-year Reuters veteran, is transitioning to the White House team to cover foreign policy. This move recognizes the increasing centralization of foreign policy execution within the White House. Pamuk previously served as the U.S. deputy foreign policy editor and has a storied career reporting on energy and international affairs, beginning in Istanbul.
- Bo Erickson has been named a member of the White House team following a successful temporary assignment. Formerly with CBS News, Erickson joined Reuters in 2024 and has distinguished himself through his versatility in both video and text journalism. His reporting over the last several months has provided sharp insights into policy and administration dynamics.
- Phil Stewart has been named lead national security correspondent. A fixture of the Reuters Washington bureau since 2009, Stewart has spent over 15 years covering military affairs and intelligence. His career with Reuters began as an intern in 1995, leading to postings in Brazil, Colombia and Italy. Having reported from more than 60 countries—including conflict zones in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan—Stewart will now help set the bureau’s broader national security agenda.
- Andrea Shalal, who has served as a White House correspondent since 2020, will join the bureau’s foreign policy team. Her new focus will center on Europe and the intersection of diplomacy, finance and global conflict. A Reuters veteran since 1988, Shalal will bring her dogged reporting and sharp news acumen to coverage of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, while also continuing to cover the World Bank, the IMF and international sanctions.
