An unidentified man was found dead on the side of the road in Victoria Police say the Gippsland man may have been sleeping rough.
Police believe the man was hit by a car during the night or earlier in the morning, with Detective Sergeant Peter Romanis saying on Monday the man had been dead for some time.

The man was last seen alive on Waterloo Road at around 7.10pm on Saturday when he was discovered by a motorist.
Romanis said police are “fairly certain” a vehicle was involved in the crash because of the debris it left at the scene.
“Pieces of glass, plastic and indicator lights were found at the scene, scattered some distance from where we believe the collision occurred.”
“The exact details of the vehicle have not yet been determined.”
Police are still trying to identify the victim, with Romanis describing the incident as “surprising.”
The man was not wearing shoes when he was found, prompting police to investigate whether he was homeless.
“It could be an indication that he may have been sleeping rough, but until we can identify him we are working on a number of different avenues of investigation,” Romanis said.
There are signs that the car may have veered off the road and that speed was a factor.
Romanis said he would be “stunned” if the driver didn’t realize he had hit someone.
“Someone should know they hit this individual,” he said.
“Whether they have had the chance to see them before or not is another matter.”
Romanis implored the driver to come forward, saying it was “the right thing to do.”
He also asked people in the area, as well as in the neighbouring towns of Moy and Traralgon, to be on the lookout for any cars that may have damage to the front passenger side.
Anyone who was driving on Waterloo Road at the time and who may have any dashcam footage is also urged to come forward.
In addition to having no shoes, the man was found wearing a black sweatshirt, a white plaid shirt, and black sweatpants with two white stripes on the sides.
