Australians Olivia Price and Evie Haselden enjoyed a successful second day in their small boat in Marseille Marina, moving up to fifth place.

But they are still hoping for stronger winds to help them in the second half of the Olympic sailing competition.

Price, 31, an experienced skipper who won silver in the triple keel sailing at the 2012 Olympics, and her young crew, 21-year-old Haseldine, enjoyed their best race of six so far when the Sydney team finished third in the final race of the day on Monday.

“We are really happy with the way we sailed today. It is very difficult out there, we had a couple of minor problems. [wind] “We’ve had days so far,” said Price, who won bronze with Haselden at last year’s world championships in a 49er FX boat.

“My legs get really sore from sitting there so much, so it’s just a matter of controlling the heat and doing the best we can.”

Winds are expected to pick up on Tuesday.

“As Australians, we love the wind. We’re looking forward to spending a couple of days stretching our legs on the 49er FX,” said Price.

The duo are fifth in the overall standings with 35 points, with French duo Sarah Steart and Charlene Picon leading the race.

The Australian men have not had a day close to success.

Jim Colley’s boat, assisted by Sean Connor, finished 14th, 10th and 10th in their three races, finishing 16th out of 20 crews.

New Zealand duo Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie dominate proceedings, winning two of the three races plus the double they also won on Sunday.

Only one men’s windsurfing race was completed due to unfavourable weather conditions, with Australian Gray Morris, son of former national champion Brett Morris, finishing 13th.
