Reports are now flooding into the newsroom of widespread disruption to a range of services across Perth including petrol stations, banks, supermarkets, shopping centres and St John’s Hospital Emergency Care. Emergency services are unaffected.

Flor, a worker at the Karinop shopping mall, says the Eftpos machines are down.

“We are open, but we cannot make any sales,” she said.

“We are putting things on hold and recording customer details, and everyone has been very understanding.

“My manager tells me to just keep smiling.”

A shopper at Busselton Bunnings reported Eftpos machines were down, with only one machine working. Customers were given coffee vouchers as a thank you for waiting.

Bendigo Bank said some online banking transactions and services were affected.

Customers entering the Kmart store in East Victoria Park are being told that shopping is cash only as a precaution, although systems are working intermittently.

Fortunately for those wondering if their bus and train stations will be running this afternoon, Transperth says all is well.

One reader reported that everything was fine this afternoon at an Australia Post outlet.

There is no evidence to suggest the outage was a hack or cybersecurity incident, according to National Cybersecurity Coordinator Michelle McGinnis.

“I am aware of a widespread technical outage affecting a number of businesses and services across Australia this afternoon,” McGuinness said in a statement on Channel X.
