The roof of a house collapsed due to strong winds and heavy rain, leaving a single mother and her four children homeless.
A Veep storyline has come true, with Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing Kamala Harris, Lando Norris being given a chance after being ordered to give up the lead so his Australian teammate Oskar Bestari could win the Hungarian Grand Prix, and Bindi Irwin revealing why she didn’t call her brother Robert.
The roof of a house in the Tapping area of Perth collapsed onto a dining table on Thursday after heavy winds and rain.
The family had been having dinner at the same place a few hours earlier.
The damage was so severe it looked like “an earthquake had hit,” said mother Dawn Patterson.
“I couldn’t believe the extent of the devastation, I’m in shock,” she told Channel 9 News.
“It sounded like an earthquake had hit the area, and I honestly didn’t know what to do. At 4 a.m., who was I going to call?”
There were reportedly no structural problems with the home, which was purchased in 2006, after a report was issued after she bought the place just three years ago.
“There were no signs or warning signs that this was happening,” she said.
It is not yet clear whether the damage is covered by insurance, as Ms. Patterson must find another place to stay in the meantime.
In the wake of the ordeal, Ms. Patterson encouraged others to double-check the safety of their homes.
“I would urge people to take a good look at their roofs to make sure they are sound and safe,” she said.
“Safety is a priority when you have children, and I think we are too.”
