Mix 102.3 radio star reveals heartbreaking cancer diagnosis live on air

A famous radio presenter expressed her deep sadness. cancer Live diagnosis.

Ali Clarke, host of Max & Ali in the Morning with Max Burford, revealed to listeners on Tuesday that she will be taking a break from the show while she undergoes treatment.

“It was important for me to tell our listeners because I have been privileged to have them trust me with their stories and so I trust them with mine,” she explained.

“I also know that many of our listeners have either survived cancer or know someone who has… Even worse, there are many people who may be listening to this morning or reading this who have lost someone dear to this terrible disease. Over the past few weeks, I have thought a lot about their loss.”

Then Ali asked one of the co-hosts to hold her hand before she bravely announced it.

“But in short, it means I’m going to have a full mastectomy. And if you’re playing at home, it means they’re going to take one of my breasts. And if I’m being really honest, that part is probably going to be more uncomfortable than I ever imagined,” she continued.

“I thought they were very small and manageable. But I found a large number of small cancerous tumors. This means I will be having major surgery later this week and will have to take some time to recover as you can imagine.

“You know me, I never wore tight clothes and I never showed my chest. They were perfectly functional. In fact, when I was growing up, you know, they almost got in the way of me exercising.”

Ali Clarke, who co-hosts Mix 102.3’s Max & Ali in the Morning with Max Burford, revealed on Tuesday that she will be taking a break from the show as she undergoes treatment for breast cancer.

The radio host then broke down in tears as she opened up emotionally about “losing a part” of herself.

“I was really in conflict with myself, between being angry with myself because I felt almost arrogant about losing a part of me,” she said.

“But when I sit down and try to think about it, I’m about to lose a part of me that society has told me forever that makes me a woman and that’s absolutely necessary, and the other big part of my brain knows that this is what really needs to happen for me to be good.”

Despite the devastating diagnosis, Ali admitted she has been “very lucky” with the quality of healthcare she has received so far.

According to the Adelaide AdvertiserTwo women have already been approached to take Ali’s place while she is on leave.

The show was renamed from The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show to Max & Ali in the Morning after Max Burford joined the team last year.

Burford, who also serves as a presenter at Channel 10 In Adelaide, he brought his knowledge of sport and local news to the team.

The full team now consists of host Clarke and Burford, along with Shane Lowe and Eddie Bannon.

In August 2023, Mix 102.3 topped the Adelaide radio ratings survey with 376,000 weekly listeners.

Ali Clarke’s show had an audience share of 11.2 per cent, making it the second most popular breakfast show in Adelaide.
