Men killed at popular waterfall identified

The two men who died while swimming at a popular waterfall were studying in Australia.

Emergency crews were called to Milla Milla Falls on the Cairns Plateau after reports two men had failed to return to the surface from the water on Tuesday.

Chaitanya Muparaju and Surya Tikha Bhupa, both in their 20s, have since been identified as the couple who died while visiting the swimming spot.

a Gofundme A fund has since been set up to help cover funeral costs for both men after their lives were “cut short” and their families after being “shattered beyond words”.

“Their sudden passing has left a void that can never be filled,” the GoFundMe said.

“In this time of profound grief, we come together to support their families during this unimaginably difficult time.

“Your generous contributions will help ease the financial burden of funeral expenses and provide them with some comfort as they deal with this painful loss.”

Queensland Police confirmed that three men were swimming at the popular waterhole when one of the men entered the water before starting to struggle, while the second man tried to help him.

Millaa Millaa Falls is a popular swimming spot.

In a statement on social media, the Australian Telugu Association urged other visitors to the area to be aware of their surroundings when entering the water.

“Another tragic incident has claimed the lives of two Telugu students in Cairns,” the association said in a statement.

“It is important to stay out of the water if you are not fully aware of the location.”

The campaign has since raised nearly its $90,000 goal in less than 24 hours at the time of this article’s publication.
