PHOENIX – An investigation is underway after a man with a knife was shot by Phoenix police officers Saturday morning near 27th Avenue and Thomas Road.
The update from Phoenix Police provided Saturday afternoon is below:
Phoenix police say they received a call about a man with a knife making threatening statements just after 9:35.
Police say officers confronted the man and gave him several commands to put the knife down and he was taken into custody.
They added that less lethal options were initially used but were not successful.
The man allegedly began running westbound down Thomas Avenue. Less lethal options were again used.
When he turned onto a side street, police say he still had the knife in his hand despite multiple commands for him to drop the knife.
When a car approached the man on the roadway, police said an officer shot the man.
The Phoenix Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting in the area of 27th Avenue and Thomas Road.

Police added that before the shooting, the man allegedly threatened someone with the knife and was confronted by another driver in the area. That’s when the man started to run away and the officers made contact with him.
The man has not been identified. He was reportedly taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The shooting remains under investigation.
