NFL teams are about to line up for head coach John Harbaugh.
Shockingly, the Baltimore Ravens fired Harbaugh on Tuesday after 18 seasons with the franchise. The coach won a Super Bowl during the 2012 season, but the team clearly felt things had grown stale after another underwhelming year. This past season, the Ravens went 8-9 and missed the playoffs after losing 26-24 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18.
Harbaugh clearly failed to capitalize on his window with star quarterback Lamar Jackson, but teams will ignore that. He’s the clear No. 1 candidate in the hiring cycle and will have his pick of the litter.
Why John Harbaugh is now the ultimate coaching free agent
Harbaugh is the most accomplished coach in this hiring cycle, which doesn’t feature an offensive wizard like Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson or master motivator in New England Patriots HC Mike Vrabel. He ranks fourth among active coaches in wins and 14th all-time (180), via Pro Football Reference.
