Jim Carrey in Talks to Star in ‘The Jetsons’ Live-Action Movie

Hollywood’s favorite funnyman may soon be heading to Orbit City. Sources confirm that Jim Carrey is in talks to star in a new live-action adaptation of The Jetsons, the beloved Hanna-Barbera animated classic that first aired in 1962.

The project is in active development at Warner Bros. Pictures, with Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World, The Book of Henry) reportedly attached to direct.

If the deal closes, Carrey is expected to play George Jetson, the well-meaning, overworked family man at the center of the futuristic comedy. Known for his elastic expressions and signature comedic energy, Carrey seems a natural fit to bring the iconic cartoon dad to life.

According to early reports, the screenplay is being co-written by Trevorrow and Joe Epstein, best known as showrunner for HBO’s The Idol. The project aims to blend retro sci-fi humor with modern themes of technology, work, and family life in a rapidly changing world.

Warner Bros. has been quietly developing The Jetsons film for several years, with past iterations rumored to have involved filmmakers like Robert Rodriguez and Conrad Vernon. This latest version, however, appears to be the most concrete step yet toward production.

For Carrey, The Jetsons would mark a major return to big-screen comedy. The two-time Golden Globe winner has been largely absent from live-action roles since 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2, having previously hinted at a potential retirement from acting.

If he officially signs on, it would be a fitting full-circle moment for the star who defined physical comedy in the 1990s with The Mask, Ace Ventura, and Liar Liar.

While Warner Bros. has not yet issued an official statement, insiders say the studio hopes to begin pre-production in early 2026. Casting for other key roles — including Jane, Judy, Elroy, and Rosie the Robot is expected to follow once Carrey’s deal is finalized.

If greenlit, The Jetsons will join a growing lineup of Hanna-Barbera reboots in development, alongside projects inspired by The Flintstones and Wacky Races.

Originally premiering on ABC in 1962, The Jetsons captured the optimism of a space-age America fascinated by the future. Set in the year 2062, the series followed George, Jane, Judy, and Elroy Jetson as they navigated everyday life with flying cars, robot maids, and digital conveniences — decades before those ideas became a reality.

The new adaptation aims to retain that spirit of wonder while exploring how the futuristic dreams of the past resonate in a modern world shaped by AI, automation, and corporate overload. If Jim Carrey officially joins the project, The Jetsons could become one of the most anticipated studio comedies of the decade, a nostalgic revival with a high-voltage star leading the charge into the future.
