The next phase of the Safer Cities: Its Way initiative, funded by the NSW Department of Transport, will begin today in the CBD.
As part of Council’s commitment to making the CBD a safer and more vibrant place to work, visit and connect, Council will upgrade the pedestrian walkway at 56 Woodlark Street, which connects Woodlark Street and Clyde Campbell car park.
The corridor was identified, through community consultation, as an area of safety concern, making it a priority site for the project.
The upcoming closure will allow for the asphalt to be moved, creating a safer, smoother surface that reduces the risk of tripping and falling. This upgrade will also improve accessibility for people with mobility aids, ensuring everyone can use the trail comfortably.
what are you expecting:
- Temporary Trail Closure: Monday, July 15 from 6am to 7pm (weather permitting).
- Private Parking Closure: The rear parking lot at 40 Woodlark Street will also be closed for asphalt work.
Notices have been sent to businesses and residents. During this period, pedestrian access through the work site will not be possible. However, alternative routes are available via the lane adjacent to Cedar and Lime or ANZ Bank.
This is the beginning of the delivery of these security improvements, and in the coming weeks the Council will begin installing:
- Surveillance Cameras
- Chain lighting
- convex mirrors
- Safety barriers
The council says these measures will enhance the safety and ease of use of this path for pedestrians.
