Google’s next streaming player looks nothing like the Chromecast

It looks like Google is about to move away from the HDMI dongle design for all its previous streaming devices in favor of a traditional set-top box. 9to5Google Google has released images of its upcoming product, which is apparently called the “Google TV Streamer.” So, not only look Previous Chromecast devices will be gone, but the name will be gone too.

The new device has a sloping top, and the overall design is in line with other recent Google devices. As for the included remote, it’s largely the same as the one that came with the last-generation Chromecast, though this one is longer and has a volume control button on the front.

I was waiting for Google to build a more powerful streaming player that could be a formidable competitor to the Apple TV 4K. Chromecast with Google TVThe Google TV Streamer, which was introduced in 2020, fell short of the mark, leaving the Nvidia Shield as the best alternative in terms of performance. In a few weeks, we’ll all be able to see if the Google TV Streamer ups the ante or keeps the specs in check to reach Google’s usual sub-$100 price point.
