Google Leak Details New Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro Price Changes

Google is gearing up to launch its new Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro smartphones, but there’s some disappointing news for those looking to upgrade to the latest AI-powered devices.

French news site Delabs Magazine Google has released pricing details for its upcoming smartphones globally. Although the prices are in Euros, they show a price increase for the two flagship Pixel phones – the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL – in the local market.

First, the Pixel 9 starts at €899 for the base 128GB model, which is €100 more than last year’s 128GB Pixel 8. The higher-end 256GB model is a bit better value but still more expensive than last year’s model, at €999 compared to €859 for the Pixel 8.

As for the Pixel 9 Pro, it is priced at €1,099 for the 128GB model, which is similar to the Pixel 8 Pro that was released last year, but the 256GB and 512GB models of the Pixel 9 Pro show a higher price than its 2023 counterpart.

But there is one caveat here.

Google will release three standard Pixel 9 models (and a fourth foldable model). This year’s Pixel 9 Pro will have the improved specs you’d expect from the Pro brand, but it will retain the smaller form factor of the Pixel 9. If you want the Pro specs in a larger size similar to the Pixel 8 Pro, you’ll need to upgrade to the Pixel 9 Pro XL… which starts at €1,199. That price is back to the €100 premium over the Pixel 8 Pro, which is the same premium the Pixel 9 has over the Pixel 8.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will start at the same price of €1,899 for the 128GB model, with the 256GB model priced at €2,029.

Google’s launch event will take place on August 13, just ten months after last year’s launch. All four Pixel 9 models are expected to launch. Google will also no doubt use the opportunity to promote its approach to AI on smartphones. Last year’s launch kicked off the current AI rush, and its launch early in the second half of the year will help define the AI market.
