The 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards hosted by Nikki Glaser, delivered an evening of emotional victories, sharp humor and viral moments that will reverberate through awards season.
One Battle After Another and Hamnet emerged as the night’s biggest film winners — Hamnet took Best Motion Picture – Drama, while One Battle After Another dominated the comedy/musical categories and creative awards, including Best Director and Best Screenplay for Paul Thomas Anderson.
Iconic performances also earned top honors: Wagner Moura won Best Actor – Drama for The Secret Agent, Timothée Chalamet claimed Best Actor – Musical/Comedy for Marty Supreme, and Rose Byrne scored Best Actress – Musical/Comedy for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. When accepting his award, Chalamet struck a balance between humor and gratitude. He joked about gaining “over 60 ounces” for his role in Marty Supreme, thanked co-star Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank, and delivered a tender tribute to his parents and partner Kylie Kardashian, all delivered with the charm that has made him an awards-season staple.
In supporting categories, Teyana Taylor gave one of the night’s most talked-about speeches with her win for One Battle After Another. Visibly surprised to hear her name, Taylor took the stage to claim her well-deserved Best Supporting Actress win and she spoke directly to young women and girls watching, declaring, “our softness is not a liability… our light does not need permission to shine.” Her words resonated across social media and awards discourse.
An equally stunned Jessie Buckley, accepted Best Actress – Drama for her acclaimed performance in Hamnet stating “this is not a normal feeling or situation to be in” and praising her cast and craftsmanship. Stellan Skarsgård won Best Supporting Actor for Sentimental Value.
KPop Demon Hunters was a double winner for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (Golden), and Ludwig Göransson earned Best Original Score for Sinners.
When KPop Demon Hunters snagged Best Original Song, co-writer and vocalist Ejae gave one of the night’s most moving speeches — recounting years of rejection and turning it into triumph, holding nothing back and even drawing emotional applause
Returning as host, Glaser opened with bold humor and playful digs at Hollywood’s elite. She took “playful shots” at CBS News, the Justice Department (“Best Editing”), and Leonardo DiCaprio — quipping he’d managed to achieve so much “before your girlfriend turned 30.” Her unapologetic energy set the tone early in the evening.
Even without a win, Roberts generated a warm show moment — earning a standing ovation while presenting an award, and joking afterward that she’d be “impossible for a week.”
Television honors highlighted both drama and comedy: The Pitt took Best Drama Series with Noah Wyle winning lead acting, while The Studio won Best Musical or Comedy Series with Seth Rogen and Jean Smart winning in their respective comedy acting categories. Adolescence continued its awards momentum with multiple wins in the limited series categories.
While many of the Globes’ winners aligned with critics’ favorites, there were notable snubs that sparked chatter: Adam Scott’s widely praised Severance performance was overlooked in television acting categories, drawing criticism from fans who expected him in the mix. Some expected Sinners to contend more heavily in top film categories — particularly Best Picture – Drama — after strong critical attention earlier in the season.
