Katherine Asplund, formerly known as Driscoll, has come under widespread criticism following allegations Asking a stranger to hand over the rights to an Instagram username With her new name after marriage.

The influencer married Cabot Asplund, heir to a multi-billion dollar family fortune (around A$8.25 billion), on April 27 and wasted no time in trying to change her Instagram account to match her new moniker.

But when the bride discovered that the requested account @katherineasplundh was already registered, she was apparently not ready to accept the rejection, so she approached the owner of the requested account, under the social media profile that still bore the name @katherinedrisc.

But things didn’t go as planned when her application was rejected.

After being told “no”, she became upset, prompting the original Kathryn Asplund – known as Kate – to share their exchange online where it went viral.

After thousands of people online described her alleged actions as “crazy” and “entitled,” the new Mrs. Asplund deactivated her social media accounts, but the new wife recently returned after three months in the dark.

On the account, which still bears her maiden name, Ms Asplund posted a series of snapshots of her new life as a married woman.

She captioned the photos: “Last summer,” along with a heart-shaped kiss emoji.

The photos show the social media sensation in a series of intimate moments with her new husband, including the duo behind the wheel of a speedboat.

Although she has made a defiant comeback after the scandal, Ms. Asplund has not officially commented on the uproar.

But Kate spoke to the Philadelphia Inquirer about the dispute, noting that she was initially “open to giving her my username,” but after expressing concerns about accepting payment for the name, she said things went wrong.

“I didn’t want to sell it because it might get me banned,” she told the newspaper.

“After I replied to her, her messages were sarcastic, so I thought, ‘Well, this is not worth it.’”

The new Mrs. Asplund did not hesitate to respond by saying that buying accounts is a common trend among prominent people, and that she had previously bought Instagram usernames before saying: “It’s strange that I didn’t know there was another Asplund family. There is no (as such) Katherine Asplund in our family.”

Kate told her the account was a fake “finsta” or Instagram that she used for private stories and photo archives and that her main account used her maiden name — which angered Ms Asplund, who argued that Kate’s name was not Katherine Asplund, and that she had reported her.

Kate then reported Ms Asplund for harassing her and trying to buy an account before she blocked the billionaire heir’s wife on Instagram.

Many Reddit users jumped to Kate’s defense.

“Really crazy behavior, ‘I can’t believe that’s your name’, huh???,” one person said.

“Going from ‘hey girl’ to ‘let me see your birth certificate’ gave me a neck injury,” another replied.
