Centrelink Beneficiaries travelling abroad are reminded to inform the government of their plans.
“There are rules about how travel outside Australia may affect your payment or debit card,” Centrelink said.
This depends on which payment or debit card you get.

When you leave Australia, we may amend or suspend your payment or discount card based on these rules.
Centrelink recipients are advised to check their Centrelink accounts regularly via myGov and to inform Centrelink of their travel plans through their accounts.
“If you can’t tell us online, you can tell us by calling us on the phone number relating to your affected payment,” Centrelink said.
Before traveling outside the country, beneficiaries must report their income on the last working day before their departure, even if their reporting day falls on or after the day of their departure.
Beneficiaries must also inform the government if they are travelling abroad to see a partner while receiving payments as a single person.
“If you are travelling overseas to visit your partner… we need to review your payments before you leave, otherwise we may pay you too much,” Centrelink said.
If for any reason Centrelink is unable to contact you while you are outside Australia, your payment or debit card may be suspended.
“If your payment stops while you are overseas, we usually cannot restore your payment until you return to Australia,” Centrelink said.
“While you are overseas, it is important that you tell us if your circumstances change just as if you were in Australia,” Centrelink said.
This is because some changes may affect your payment or debit card.
You do not need to tell Centrelink when you arrive home.
If you are travelling outside Australia for less than a year, your fortnightly payments will continue as normal.
However, if you will be away from the country for more than a year, your payments will be extended to every four weeks.
Monthly installments can be paid into an offshore bank account, in local currency or in US dollars, depending on where you are travelling.
If there is a serious problem, such as illness or natural disaster, that affects your ability to travel home, you may be able to extend your payments but you will need to contact Centrelink International Services.
