Alleged sci-fi serial harasser Bill Gene Hobbs pleads not guilty to charges

The man who has gained notoriety in San Francisco for allegedly grabbing, kissing and otherwise harassing women will be held without bail after pleading not guilty to a series of criminal charges.

At a hearing Monday, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Marisa Chun denied a defense attorney’s request to allow 34-year-old Bill Gene Hobbs to be released to live with his mother in Bakersfield, but said she would consider additional arguments at a later date .

Chun’s first order sided with prosecutors’ argument, which said the community at large — in San Francisco or elsewhere — would be endangered if Hobbs were released from prison.

Hobbs, dressed in neon orange prison garb down to his socks, tried to intervene on at least two occasions as lawyers spoke, but otherwise only addressed the court to answer procedural questions.
