All about Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s long-awaited return

Twenty years after the original film, the first official trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 has finally arrived. Released by 20th Century Studios on February 2, 2026, the trailer confirms that the world of Runway is back, though it looks a bit different in the digital age. The film is scheduled to hit the theaters on May 1, 2026.

The sequel reunites Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, who haven’t shared the screen in these iconic roles since 2006. The story shifts focus to a modern landscape where the print industry is struggling. Miranda Priestly (Streep) is still at the helm of Runway, but she finds herself amidst a power struggle.

In a twist of fate, her former assistant Emily (Blunt) is now a high-powered executive at a luxury conglomerate, the very company Miranda needs for advertising dollars. Meanwhile, Andy Sachs (Hathaway) returns as a senior editor, caught once again in the middle of their sharp-tongued rivalry.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer brings back the original trio: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt reigniting the sharp-tongued dynamics of Runway. The trailer shows a world where print media struggles, setting the stage for a new power struggle.

The trailer shows Miranda Priestly failing to recognize Andy and asking, “Who is this?”. This dismissive gesture signals Miranda’s every-lasting ice-cold persona and suggests that despite their past history, she still views her former assistants as interchangeable “Emilys”.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 was greenlit in July 2024 after years of speculation. Disney’s 20th Century Studios is heading the production, reuniting the creative powerhouse that made the first film a success. David Frankel is directing the sequel, along with original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna and producer Wendy Finerman.

The comedy-drama sequel coming to life was a surprise to everyone, including the film’s main cast. For a long time, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt weren’t sure about returning. Hathaway even said she didn’t think the story would work in today’s world. However, after a viral reunion at the 2024 SAG Awards, momentum shifted.

The filming began on June 30, 2025, on the streets of New York City and in Milan, Italy. The production famously used the code name “Cerulean” on set, a playful nod to Miranda Priestly’s legendary monologue about a blue sweater. Filming officially wrapped in October 2025.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 supporting cast includes Kenneth Branagh, who plays Miranda’s new husband. Other major additions include Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, Simone Ashley, Lady Gaga in a small role, and Sydney Sweeney. Notably, Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s boyfriend Nate in the first film, will not be returning.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 will hit the theaters on May 1, 2026.
