A new DMV is opening in the western suburbs and this one will look different for residents.
Known as the “one-stop-shop” model, the new DMV opening in Naperville Monday will have only one counter.
The “single service counter” will offer everything from driver’s license applications and renewals to REAL ID applications to title work to renewal stickers and more.
“For the first time, the Naperville DMV location will leverage the office’s One-Stop-Shop model with cross-trained employees to offer faster service, new efficiencies and expanded capacity,” the Illinois Secretary of State’s office said in a release.
The new facility, located at 1771 W. Diehl Rd., Unit 110, will be open for appoints only from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays.
Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias will hold a press conference from the DMV at 10:30 a.m. Monday alongside State Sen. Karina Villa, State Sen. Seth Lewis and State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit.
The “one-stop-shop” model was first announced by Giannoulias in 2024, with his office noting that all new Illinois facilities would be built with it.
According to the Secretary of State’s office, customers can use the single service counters for the following services:
- Join the Illinois Organ and Tissue Donor Registry
- Apply for a REAL ID or a new driver’s license or state ID card.
- Renew a driver’s license, state ID or Temporary Visitor Driver’s License (TVDL).
- Order a new license plate using Pick-A-Plate.
- Register or renew their vehicle registration.
“For too long customers have been required to follow an illogical path through the state’s DMV facilities. My administration used data to determine the most efficient paths for customers in order to cut down on confusion and save time,” Giannoulias said when announcing the plan last year. “I’m excited to see customers’ reactions at the new look and feel of our DMV facilities. The ‘One-Stop-Shop’ experience tears down silos, revolutionizing how our facilities serve Illinoisans.”
