TBIJ hires Clayton as Big Tech editor

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism has appointed James Clayton as its new Big Tech editor to lead a push to expand its investigations into artificial intelligence, wrongdoing by Big Tech companies and the mis- and disinformation space.

James has returned to the UK after a five-year stint as the BBC’s Silicon Valley Correspondent, where he produced impactful investigations and features and scored major interviews, such as one with Elon Musk.

Prior to that James was a producer and correspondent for BBC Newsnight, where he won an Royal Television Award along with several other prizes.

Franz Wild, TBIJ’s newly appointed editor in chief and CEO, said: “James brings an abundance of ideas and energy. He will be able to focus on ambitious investigations and help us grow one of our most important and relevant reporting strands. We’re excited for him to get started.”
